Upon enrolling in the Oak Grove High School Band, a student is committing themselves to marching band, pep band, concert band, and solo/small ensemble participation. These four areas of the instrumental program give each student a well-rounded musical experience. PERFORMANCES Required performances include the following: STUDENT EXPECTATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY As an Oak Grove High School Band member, every student has accepted the responsibility of being a representative of the school and community. Proper behavior and attitude are expected at all times. School rules and consequences apply to each rehearsal and performance whether at home or away. These consequences may result in a variety of measures ranging from office referrals to removal from the organization. Requirements: Students who represent a school in interscholastic activities must be creditable
citizens and judged so by the proper school authority. Those students whose character or conduct
is such as to reflect discredit upon themselves or their schools are not considered "creditable
citizens." Conduct shall be satisfactory in accord with the standards of good discipline. PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES AND ELIGIBILITY
GRADING Grades are determined by: daily attendance and participation, performance attendance and participation, preparation of rehearsals and performances, and a respectful development and positive approach toward the program and its' members. Performance absences: Absence from a performance will be categorized into the following classifications: (1) excused with advanced notice; (2) excused without advanced notice; (3) unexcused with advanced notice; (4) unexcused without advanced notice; or, (5) absence with no notification or communication with director.
UNIFORMS Uniforms are provided by the instrumental department; however, students are expected to purchase the band uniform shoes, white gloves, a band T-shirt, and black socks. Members of colorguard and drumline may need to provide additional materials. Students will be in correct uniform attire for each marching or concert performance. Reduction of points will result form any variation of the correct uniform or uniform storage. Full dress will be expected whenever a student is in public. Any variation of full dress code will be given at the Director's discretion. A $8.50 cleaning fee will be assessed to each member of the band. To help defray uniform costs, a fund-raiser will be available for any student wishing to participate. A financial charge will be assigned for carelessness leading to damage or loss of a uniform. The charge will be in congruence with the damage/loss. SCHOOL OWNED INSTRUMENTS When checked out to a student, a school owned instrument is considered to be in Good Working Condition. Dependent upon the instrument, it is expected that normal wear and tear occur. Any negligent damage caused to the instrument is the student's responsibility. All damage must be reported so that the instrument can be repaired by the school's repair contact. The student's financial obligation will be congruent with the repair. FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS U NOTE: Members of Colorguard and Drumline may incur additional obligations dependent upon various factors and decisions of the group.
